We all know that heartburn can be a nasty thing.

Throw in the aspect of eating healthy food and training on that, and you’re left with something that really irritates your life. Often the root cause of heartburn lies in your diet, and simple changes can see you up and running in no time.

When looking at pharmacology, there are so many different things that need to be considered.

Using any drug can be complicated, and using steroids is even more complicated, yet we are going to try and see if Anavar or any other Anabolic Steroids can give you heartburn. If they can, we will discuss why it happens, and how to combat it as well.

Summary:

Anavar is a steroid that could heartburn, but that does not mean it applies to everyone who takes Anavar.  To be on the safer side without experiencing any side effects consider taking a look at a safer Anavar that doesn’t cause heartburn, liver issues, and acid flux. Without further ado, let us dig in.

What is Heartburn?

According to the NHS, heartburn can be described as “Heartburn is a burning feeling in the chest caused by stomach acid traveling up towards the throat (acid reflux). If it keeps happening, it’s called gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GORD).”

The most common way to describe it simply is a burning sensation in the back of your through and chest. It can feel like you are about to throw up, yet it also feels like doing so would burn your throat tremendously. Acid reflux can also make itself known by causing an unpleasant sour taste in your mouth.

Other symptoms include:

  • a cough or hiccups that keep coming back
  • a hoarse voice
  • bad breath
  • bloating and feeling sick

Causes of heartburn or acid reflux are:

  • certain food and drink – such as coffee, tomatoes, alcohol, chocolate, and fatty or spicy foods (anything that has a very high acidity level)
  • being overweight
  • smoking
  • pregnancy
  • stress and anxiety
  • an increase in some types of hormones, such as progesterone and estrogen
  • some medicines, such as anti-inflammatory painkillers

Does Anavar give you Heartburn?

Let’s get into the meat of the question. Does Anavar cause heartburn? The answer is that it will depend from person to person, but there is a chance that it might. First off, we are dealing with a compound that people will be using way more than what any medical professional would recommend, thus, looking at what “normal” humans experience doesn’t really apply.

When looking at some reviews on Reddit, we find that a lot of people find oral steroids in general cause some severe Acid Reflux:

“I have terrible acid reflux from oral steroids to the point I have to take omeprazole, Tums, and milk throughout the day so I don’t feel like my upper UI system isn’t on fire. I have tried Anavar, winny, Superdrol, and mtren. If anyone knows any oral agents that don’t cause acid reflux and shin pumps lmk”

“Derek actually breaks taking sublingually down in one of his videos. Technically it should have less of an agitation to the stomach because absorbing in the mucus membrane under the tongue would avoid a lot of the metabolic reaction that would otherwise occur if swallowing it.”

“Some compounds effect you differently than others. I have severe stomach problems when I attempted to run tren, sucks, but now that I know I can run something else. If you feel terrible, your workouts and diet will be shit, ruining the benefits of the cycle.”

What the last person mentioned is absolutely true.

Not all compounds work for all people, and the notion that they should is very far from the truth. We all have different microbiomes and gut fauna and flora, thus, we will break down compounds vastly differently.

There are a couple of reasons why Anavar could cause heartburn:

  • All Oral steroids will cause some harm to the liver due to the first-pass effect. This could lead to some stomach issues and therefore cause some acid reflux
  • Oral steroids will place some stress on the stomach seeing as the compound has to be dissolved in there
  • Heavy metals contained in the steroid could lead to stomach discomfort and thereby, acid reflux

There are a few ways you could potentially avoid this, but we will get into those later. We first need to look at which other steroids are prone to causing heartburn and acid reflux.

Do Steroids give you Heartburn?

Without beating around the bush, yes, steroids can give you heartburn, but that does not mean that they all do. There are a couple that is more likely to do so:

  • Anadrol (Oxymetholone)
  • Deca (Nandrolone Decaonate)
  • Trenbolone
  • Anavar (Oxandrolone)
  • Winstrol (Stanazolol)
  • Proviron (Mesterolone)
  • Dianabol (Metandienone)

As you might have noticed, most of these are oral-based compounds.

The reason for this is that most orals will not only place great strain on the stomach but the liver as well. The liver can cause indigestion, acid reflux, and other gastric problems when hurt. Other reasons why Steroids could cause heartburn are because they wreck your lipids, increase your blood pressure, or because they increase Estrogen.

How to Avoid Heartburn from Anavar?

The very first thing you can do is stop taking Anavar. If a compound does not work for you, do not feel obligated to force your body to adapt to it. Your body speaks to you for a reason.

That said, there are a couple of things you could do to help your body deal with Anavar:

  • Taking Anavar with food, or ideally taking it with healthy fats such as Omega Fatty Acids (Omega 3)
  • If you are taking more than 20mg per day, perhaps splitting your dose would help
  • Some claim that taking the dosage sublingually would help the stomach with digesting the compound
  • Taking Anavar at a point in the day where you would not notice the heartburn is a last-ditch attempt – such as before bed
